Festival Place Goes To the Races

On 19th April, Spring Trials Day at Newbury Race Course, Festival Place will be enjoying a day out at the races and will be taking their resident stylist Chantelle with them to offer advice to race goers and showcase a selection of fashions.

Festival Place will be set up outside the winners paddock and will be offering free 10 minute style consultations with their resident stylist Chantelle. Toni and Guy will be on hand to offer free fringe trims and hair straightening demonstrations, as well as Clarins providing 5-minute make-up lessons.

Resident Stylist Chantelle shows us how to dress to impress at the races

A day out at the races is a real opportunity to dress to impress and add a touch of glamour. Contrary to popular belief, you really don't have to spend a fortune and to prove it here are five of my most favoured fashion tips that won't damage your bank balance or your fashion credentials!

Accessories are huge this season so make a dramatic statement by adding a belt worn right on the waist – no racing outfit is complete without one! If you want a feminine look, which you can wear again and again, then you can't go far wrong with a wide leather or patent belt worn with a swishy skirt suit or dress.

Bring an old style prom dress right up-to-date by adding your very own handmade brightly coloured ribbon sash.  Tie the sash in a neat knot with loose ends or in a big bow for that extra special wow factor.

Very often people think they need to wear a head to toe coordinated outfit but this look is well past its sell by date. Break the mould and lavish in the fact that this season is all about clashing trends. Try to create more drama and interest to your outfit with a pair of multicoloured shoes. Remember, straps are bold, heels are chunky or wedge shaped and the colours this season put the 80's to shame!

The clutch bag is hot property! They come in all shapes and sizes and very easily add a lot of glamour to your racing attire. Steer away from the classic satin clutch bag in pretty pastel pink and instead go for a striking clip frame style – it doesn't necessarily have to match perfectly with what you're wearing – vibrant textures, colour and size are what matter this season.

What is a race meeting without a glorious hat?  These are your biggest statement accessories and traditionally it's advised you should wear one that covers the crown of the head if you're in the company of the Royals, but at Newbury it's a little more relaxed. The alternative to wearing a hat is an eye-catching 'Fascinator', which is fun to wear and adds a little creativity to an outfit.

Wear it to the max; maxi dresses are not just associated with wearing on the beach during your summer hols, there's now plenty of choice with smarter, slinky and retro styles to choose from so why not try your luck in one at the races. Bold floral patterns add a more relaxed look whilst glamorous silks add ultimate luxe appeal teamed with high heels.
