Christmas Light Switch On
Our Christmas Lights were switched on with a squeal this year by the much loved Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Hundreds of people had great fun at our annual Light Switch On event that this year had a real family focus. The crowds were entertained with some serious festive entertainment beginning with TV presenter Olly Smith as he introduced the winner of this year’s Festival Factor competition, Maria Christina Ricafort, who wowed the crowds with her big voice.
A comedic Santa then had the crowds rolling with laughter as he and his butler attempted to juggle with fire sticks!
After further musical performances from the fabulous soul singer Fil Straughan and Clive’s Music School, there was a thrilling dance routine from Basingstoke Academy of Dancing then it was time to say hello to the chipmunks.
Deafening squeals of excitement welcomed Alvin and the Chipmunks to the stage where they waved to the crowds and performed their own dance to some of the Chipmunk songs.
After a countdown from 10, Alvin himself stepped forward to press the button - which not only turned on all of the Christmas lights in the centre but launched a 5 minute display of spectacular fireworks that lit up everyone’s face with a smile.
