Red Nose Day Challenge at Festival Place
Friday 18 March was a day to remember for the team at Festival Place, Basingstoke when David Edwardson, our Retail Liaison Manager, was brave enough to put his face and body on the line for Comic Relief.
David has been known to be a bit of a joker and retailer TK Maxx, one of the charity’s official sponsors, challenged David to stand in the store window and be pelted with cream pies by staff, retailers and customers of Festival Place for 2 hours.
So emails, flyers, posters Facebook and Twitter messages were sent out to everyone to come along and take up their pies for a donation.
David arrived at TK Maxx, elegantly dressed for the occasion and took up his position behind barriers, ready for the onslaught. At first the customers weren’t too sure about hitting someone, but Centre staff soon persuaded them that David was totally up for it; perhaps some of his challenging quips helped, but soon there was a small crowd and a line of office staff and Duty Assistants as well as some of our retail managers – and a policeman! - ready to give him one in the eye.
Centre Director, Steven Connolly was so keen to get into the swing of things that he took a run up to the line to help with the velocity of his pie!
After the 2 hours was up, David squelched off to a shower to get the cream out of some surprising places, while TK Maxx totalled up what had been donated in that period.
Happily David raised a great £136 in those 2 hours. We can only thank him for his dedication to charity and fun, and congratulate David on a job well done.
