We Asked the Stylist
My daughter and I went to “Ask the Stylist” on Sunday 28 February, having seen the event adverted on the Website.
We were looking forward to getting ideas for the summer, styles to wear and where to buy in Festival Place (and of course the coffee and cake!).
Celebrity Stylist Wendy Elsmore showed us how you can buy clothes from stores like H&M, Zara, River Island, Debenhams and Next then mix them together to create styles that suit you and don’t have to cost the earth. Wendy also teamed the outfits she created with accessories, bags and shoes from Accessorize, River Island, Next and Debenhams.
It was great to see the accents for the season ahead such as floral prints from tiny flowers to the bold print, and the gentle hues such as peach which can give a wonderful glow to the skin. Denim is still in fashion and golds and silvers are out there to compliment or create an outfit from.
While Wendy gave us the styles and where to buy them, celebrity hair stylist Jason Smith gave us ideas for our hair and how to get the best out of it. Jason explained that you don’t have to spend a fortune to colour your hair; if you’re not sure, use a wash in / wash out shampoo to try a new colour, then if that colour isn’t right for you, it’ll be gone in a couple of washes. Jason did advise that once you’re sure you want to colour your hair that if you can afford it, the best way forward is for a professional to colour your hair.
While the models were showing us the outfits, Jason quickly changed their hairstyles to suit the styles, it was fantastic to see what a small hairpiece or a ‘Bumpit’ could do to your hairstyle. A ‘Bumpit’ is an accessory to put in your hair (like a hairband); then cover it up with your hair and get height into your style. Everyone at the show was really interested it that, and I can tell you that Claire’s Accessories ran out of stock as my daughter wanted one and they had none in stock.
Make up for the new season is subtle with colours like soft lilacs and gentle highlights to accentuate your face. Lipsticks were again soft colours for the spring and summer, and the best buys for a variety of make-up were suggested such as Maybelline mascara, Gosh eye shadows and lipsticks, all available from Superdrug.
The Sports Centre joined us with a couple of demonstrations of exercises from “old fashioned” aerobics to the more modern “Zumba”. They also gave out passes to try some of the classes, I may try them.
It was a really enjoyable afternoon, with a fabulous prize of a pearl necklace from Goldsmiths going to a lucky member of the Festival Rewards Club.
