Festival Place staff are hoping to complete a 600km virtual challenge to raise much-needed funds for St. Michael’s Hospice in Basingstoke.
Members of the shopping centre’s Centre Management team along with the Security Control room team pledged to run, cycle and walk the distance between them in the hospice’s Let’s Get Virtual challenge.
It’s the third year running that Festival Place has committed to raising funds for the town’s hospice which cares for people with life-limiting illnesses.
Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19, St. Michael’s Hospice had to cancel several fundraising events and launched the virtual challenge instead to encourage the community to make the most of their free time.
Those taking part include, Marketing Manager Emily, Digital Marketing Coordinator Molly, Marketing Coordinator Sian, Control Room Manager Stacey and her team, Business Performance Manager Rachel, Customer Care team member Sally and Administrator Sarah each running, cycling or walking to complete their challenges.
Centre Director Neil Churchill said: “Having chosen to support St Michael’s Hospice again this year, we were concerned that we wouldn’t be able to implement our fundraising plans. But our marketing team has come up trumps and were delighted to use their free time to take part in the virtual challenge.
“So not only are they keeping fit, but they are raising money too for such an amazing place. Last year we raised more than £24,889 which provided the Community Palliative Care Team for three weeks, 1,244 nurse hours and 39 days of care for a patient at the inpatient unit. This year we’ll do our best to beat that and wish everyone talking part the very best of luck.”
Anyone can sign up to the challenge by signing up for £10, completing their chosen challenge and sending in evidence to receive a medal through the post. For those who raise over £100 in sponsorship they will also receive a St. Michael’s Hospice goodie bag and a t-shirt or running vest.
