Festival Place has introduced a traffic light system on its website as an extra safety measure to inform shoppers when the centre is busy.
To help maintain social distancing and manage levels of people in the shopping centre, the system tracks live occupancy in line with COVID-19 guidelines which is then displayed on the website as a green, yellow or red banner.
FP Centre Director Neil Churchill said: “The alert system integrates seamlessly with our footfall counters, is then analysed and translated onto our website.
“Our priority as always is the health and wellbeing of everyone in the centre – we must continue to look after each other. So, this new system demonstrates how customer volumes are being managed and allows shoppers to make an informed choice whether they visit us or come when it’s quieter.
“It also allows us to ensure our resources are allocated efficiently by alerting management and security when capacity is being reached or if there’s crowding in one particular area.”
Festival Place welcomed back shoppers to its non-essential stores on June 15 after putting in place extensive safety measures.
New signage around the centre encourages people to move around in one direction and reminds them to socially distance.
Hand sanitisers are at the entrances to the centre and a thorough cleaning regime is carried out regularly throughout the day so that customers can maintain a high level of hygiene.
The centre is open from 9am-6pm Monday – Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sunday. Customers are advised check individual retailer pages for their specific hours as these may differ.
