Festival Place is celebrating after being given top spot in a national shopping industry award.
The Sceptre Awards reward excellence within the retail industry, and this week the winners were announced in 20 categories covering all aspects of the management and operation of shopping centres.
Festival Place won gold in the Mall Technology Innovation of the Year category for its roll-out of its new retailer engagement app – My FP.
The centre is always looking for ways to improve how it operates and welcomes the use of technology to ensure the centre operates to the best of its ability. Rachel Carter and Kayleigh Pistell from the Business Performance team lead the launch of the app, which saw 98% of retailers onboard within two days and 1,800 employees within a month.
My FP has been particularly useful during the two lockdown periods supporting employees and retailers with the uncertainty as well as the reopening of their stores.
Graham Parker, chair of the judging panel and editor of Retail Destination, said: “In an unprecedented year that has seen non-essential shops closed for long periods and social distancing measures imposed throughout the malls, management teams at retail destinations across the UK and Ireland have gone above and beyond to ensure that their centres remain a safe and attractive place to visit.”
Centre Director Neil Churchill said: “This is a huge achievement for all those involved. Our app has been a great success and kept all our teams engaged and supported during this strangest of years which has been so difficult for our industry. This recognition really does matter to us.”
Festival Place Marketing Manager Emily Palmer was also lauded for her creative flair and innovation, particularly with the centre’s fairytale Christmas launch last year which achieved Highly Commended in the Christmas Campaign category.
Held over a weekend, rather just one evening more people were able to experience the magical activities with the extra footfall benefiting the retailers. She was awarded Highly Commended in the hotly contested Marketing Manager of the year category.
