We are once again helping deliver a little festive cheer to families in need this Christmas by supporting the Basingstoke Foodbank and Besom in Basingstoke’s Christmas Hamper Project.

Last year saw more than 900 Christmas hampers delivered to individuals and families across Basingstoke.

We’d love to invite you to create your own festive hampers or bring items to the dedicated foodbank Christmas unit on the upper floor of the centre.

To create your own Christmas hamper, just cover a cardboard box with festive paper and fill it will all the things that make Christmas special.

Suggested items for either a hamper or individual donation include:

  • Cake – ideally Christmas or Yule Log
  • Pudding – ideally Christmas or a chocolate version
  • Box mince pies, apple pies etc
  • Box of chocolates
  • Box or packet of biscuits
  • Hot drink – tea, hot chocolate, coffee
  • Tinned meat – eg ham, chicken, mince, pork
  • Tinned tuna
  • Cooking sauce – eg curry sauce, pasta sauce
  • Packet of seasonal dried stuffing
  • Tinned fruit
  • Custard
  • A nice jar of jam or pickle
  • Toiletries
  • Christmas Crackers

You can bring food items and hampers to the Christmas Hamper site at Festival Place (on the upper level next to Swarovski) from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, between December 1 and 21.

Abigail Compton-Burnett from the foodbank said: “We deliver hampers to those people in Basingstoke who would particularly value extra help at Christmas – but, as we rely on donations, we can only send out as many hampers and food items as we are given.

“They are incredibly well received – we are greeted with huge smiles and tears on the doorsteps and get so many messages of thanks.

“We are delighted that Festival Place has once again given us a unit in which we can receive and assemble hampers. It is wonderful to know there is so much goodwill and desire to help those who are struggling in Basingstoke.”
