Zambrero to open new restaurant at Festival Place

Zambrero, the modern Mexican restaurant group, is pleased to announce it has secured a site in Basingstoke and will soon open its doors in Hampshire for the first time.

Serving up a fresh take on Mexican favourites, the restaurant is due to open in May and will create around 10 full and part-time jobs. It will be located on Queen Anne’s Square in the Festival Place Shopping Centre and will offer the option to sit in or takeaway - perfect for on-the-go or a more relaxed sit-down meal, with seating for 15 customers inside and a further 10 outside. Famous for its burritos and bowls, Zambrero also offers tacos, nachos and quesadillas, with slow cooked meat fillings, as well as vegetarian, vegan and Halal menu options.

The new restaurant is being opened by experienced Zambrero restaurant owner Sumin Lohani, who joined the brand as a Franchise Partner in mid-2025, taking over an existing restaurant in Reading. Lohani is also a Zambrero Development Agent, responsible for recruiting new Franchise Partners to open restaurants in Hampshire, Berkshire and the Isle of Wight.

Lohani is not new to Basingstoke, having lived in the town for 15 years and worked at a local hotel as Operations Manager. He still has a close connection to the town and often visits with his family. It’s this affection for Basingstoke that prompted Lohani to choose it as the location for his next Zambrero restaurant.

Lohani said: “Basingstoke holds a special place in my heart. After living and working in the town for 15 years, I’ve always felt a strong connection to the community, so it was the natural choice for my next Zambrero restaurant. I’m delighted to be opening in Festival Place, a vibrant hub at the centre of local life, and I’m excited to once again become part of the Basingstoke community. I look forward to welcoming our first customers when we open next month.”

Vicky Hickson, Centre Director for Festival Place, commented: “We’re delighted to welcome Zambrero to Festival Place. It’s an exciting addition to our food and beverage offerings and brings something fresh and distinctive for our visitors. There’s a clear demand for high-quality, fast-casual dining, and Zambrero’s focus on flavour and convenience combined with its commitment to social impact, makes it a great fit for the centre. We are continuing to evolve and strengthen the mix at Festival Place, and openings like this reflect our commitment to offering a broad, relevant and engaging experience for our customers.”

At the heart of Zambrero is its hugely successful ‘Plate 4 Plate’ humanitarian initiative. Every time a burrito or bowl is purchased at any of its restaurants, Zambrero sends a nutritious meal to someone in need in the developing world via its distribution partner, Rise Against Hunger℠. The combination of delicious freshly prepared food and giving back is why Zambrero call themselves Feel Good Mex.

Since its 2021 launch in London, Zambrero now has 14 restaurants across the UK, located in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Reading, Essex and Glasgow.
