Here are some ideas to get you started.
Choose your colours
It’s Christmas, so anything goes, from traditional reds, greens and golds to the 2023 Barbie pink trend! Our new homestyle store Rosie Rose is full of gorgeous table pieces, from jewel-coloured glass candlesticks and glasses to this year’s must-have mushroom decorations.
Set the tone
Table linen is the backdrop for everything that sits on top of it! If your china is white, a festive patterned tablecloth and napkins will make a strong style statement, or clean white will set off a more colourful scheme. Next’s white Gingerbread Scene tablecloth with a colourful gingerbread town border brings the best of both worlds and costs £28-£36, depending on the size.
Think about lighting
Help your tablescape shine with softly glowing candles. From flickering tea lights to tall tapers and statement church candles in a hurricane lantern, candles are an easy way to shed a little light on the proceedings. For maximum effect, dot tealights all around your table in pretty coloured holders – you'll get 30 in a tealight pack from Flying Tiger for £4. If there are children at the table, choose LED candles for all the effect with none of the risk. These three red LED candles are just £3 at Poundland.
Bring the fragrance
Fragrant potpourri is just the thing to add a festive feel to your home. Scatter your Christmas table with this beautiful mandarin, clove and cinnamon potpourri, £9, from M&S – it looks gorgeous in rich red and gold and will fill the room with sweet and spicy warming aromas.
Plate it up
We’ve got lots of beautiful Christmas crockery to bring the pzazz to your dining table – don't forget the little ones, whose turkey will be even more lip-smacking when they tuck into it on this sweet bamboo reindeer plate, £7.50, from Fig & Fox. There’s an elf one, too!
It doesn’t have to be expensive
Keep things natural by creating a beautiful Christmas table with objects found all around you. Rummage through hedgerows for seasonal foliage, bring in fruits like figs, pears and pomegranates, and add herbs like rosemary to make the table feel fresh. Dig out the pretty, old-fashioned china granny left you that you haven’t found a use for and layer up for a gorgeous style statement.
Have fun!
Creating a beautiful table is a fun, creative thing to do and is a real treat for your guests, who will feel like you’ve really gone the extra mile to make them feel special.
