After a hot, hot summer, hands up who’s ready for autumn? We’re looking forward to a bit of cooler weather and the return of a few cosy knits!
The seasons come and go very quickly in the fashion world and it's a long time since the big fashion houses told us what would be in store for us back in February’s AW22 Fashion Week.
So, from bright, mood-boosting hues to oversized blazers, micro minis, neat neutrals, and Top Gun style flight jackets, here's a reminder of what should be hanging in your wardrobe this autumn.
Trail blazers: Tick off two AW22 must-haves in one with an on-trend blazer in a fashionable bright shade. We love this orange ruched sleeve blazer, £18.49, from Quiz.
The fuchsia’s bright: Don’t pack away the sunnies just yet – you may need them to counter the dazzling neon pink that looks set to dominate this season. Valentino devoted its entire collection to Elle Woods fuchsia! That might be a bit much for us, but we’re loving this high ruffle neck dress, £20, from Apricot.
High fliers: It keeps coming back again and again – and with Top Gun Maverick the must-see movie of the year, the flight jacket was bound to report for duty this autumn. You'll feel on cloud nine in this sunny yellow statement Everest Bomber Jacket, £124.99, from Superdry.
Knit picking: From cardigans and jumpers to sweater dresses and skirts, knitwear will both look good and feel good this season. Stick to the bright colours with this fun rainbow stripe jumper, £36, from Next.
Bag it up: Bold bags are in and a fun way to add colour to an outfit if you don’t want to go the whole hog. Go with the fuchsia trend with this hot pink patent cross body bag, £27, from Accessorize.
Vested interest: A great vest is the foundation for a great outfit, and the plain white tank was elevated to new heights on the AW22 catwalks. This ribbed racer vest costs just £12 at M&S – it has added stretch for comfort and comes in white, black, pink and khaki.
Shine on: Shimmer is back for autumn – and just in time for Strictly! Get your shine on with this Cutie London Silver Sequin Strappy Cami, £30, at New Look.
Mini marvel: Tiny skirts were big news this summer and they’re not going anywhere this autumn/winter, either. Get the preppy look with this plaid pleated skirt , £14.99, from H&M. It comes in a range of colours perfect for the new season.
Keep it neutral: Bright may be the story of the season, but for the more minimal among us, classic neutrals are staying strong for autumn/winter 2022. Caramel, sand, cream, buttermilk, deep reddish brown and classic white can all be weaved into your wardrobe for a look that is both cosy and classy. Get the neutral style with these Ecru High Waisted Bum Sculpt Flare Jeans, £46, at River Island.
Get the boot: Biker boots are back in vogue and work with anything from boyfriend jeans to pretty floral dresses. Put your best foot forward in these Amira Patent Ribbed Elastic Lace-Up Ankle Boots, £30, from Office.
