Festival Place teams take on St Michael's Hospice fundraising challenge

Two teams from Festival Place in Basingstoke will be getting creative as they take on a tough fundraising challenge set by a local hospice.

St. Michael’s Hospice is giving local businesses, schools and groups three months to raise as much money as they can from an initial investment of £50.

The Basingstoke Shopping Centre has entered two teams in the Accumulator Challenge – the Customer Care team will be going up against Festival Place Management team.

St. Michael’s Hospice will give each Accumulator Challenge team £50 to start their fundraising efforts and is hoping competitors will help raise a total of £15,000 between them.

As part of its fundraising efforts, Festival Place will be opening its own ‘Curiosity Shop’ from September 27, which will be open on Fridays and Sundays from 11am to 4pm selling an eclectic range of reclaimed, repurposed and recycled goods.

Centre Director Neil Churchill said: “This should be a very exciting challenge, and the team is looking forward to using some creative thinking to come up with the best ways of making as much money as possible.

“St. Michael’s Hospice is our charity of the year for the second year running, and our initiatives raised more than £10,000 last year.”

Jackie Ridge, head of fundraising at St. Michael’s Hospice, said: “It is a pleasure to work with the team at Festival Place, and we look forward to seeing how they aim to tackle the Accumulator Challenge!

“The money raised will help us support more than 500 local people each year facing life-limiting illness. We hope teams can collectively raise £15,000 from the challenge, which will provide 18 weeks of medication and oxygen for all patients.”

The three-month challenge kicks off with a launch night on September 2 and ends with an awards ceremony in December when the winning team and total raised will be announced.
