Put down those meat tongs and come and veg out with us!

Veganuary challenges us to change the way we eat and make veg the star of the show – even if it’s just for the month.

Lots of people give it a go, whether they give up meat for the whole month, or introduce two or three plant-based meals every week. It’s good for our health, lowers our carbon footprint, and helps us start the year with a sense of purpose.

Luckily, our huge range of restaurants offers plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans, so why not spend a veggie day with us and see how easy – and delicious – it can be?

Breakfast

Stop at Starbucks for a Beyond Meat Breakfast Sandwich, a protein patty with zingy tomato relish, tofu turmeric egg alternative and a slice of coconut oil-based alternative cheese. Or pop into Pret, where you’ll find lots of veggie and vegan options, including an Acai and Almond Butter Bowl, with sliced banana, shredded apple, granola and acai berry puree topped with pomegranate seeds and almond butter.

You’ll find plenty of vegetarian and vegan options at Cosy Club, including the Vegan Shakshuka with spiced tomato and red pepper sauce, wilted spinach, mushroom, crispy chickpeas, smoked paprika and toasted sourdough – or walk into Wetherspoon’s The Angel for a delicious and filling vegan breakfast of two Quorn sausages, baked beans, two hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes and toast.

Mid-morning

Grab a coffee to go from any of our great cafes. Pret, Costa, Starbucks and Caffe Nero all offer dairy alternatives, including almond, coconut, soya and oat milks, and you can also switch things up at The Granary Bakehouse and Cafe, Cafe Giardino, and Patisserie Valerie.

Lunch

There’s a wide range of vegetarian and vegan options at Ask Italian, including pizzas, pasta dishes, sides, nibbles and puddings.

Grab one of Gregg’s famous vegan sausage rolls for lunch on the run, or pop into Afrizi for a bowl of moreish plantain fries with Cajun seasoning.

Afternoon break

You might not think milkshakes would work well for those on a plant-based diet, but Shakeaway can make its dazzling concoctions with dairy free ice cream, organic soya milk, or fat-free frozen yoghurt. At Bubble Ci-Tea, try a coconut milk tea – fruity and smooth and topped with fabulous rainbow jelly and tapioca pearls.

Dinner

Wagamama has a dedicated vegan menu, and has unveiled a Lion’s Mane ‘steak’ bulgogi for Veganuary. The dish pairs smoky lion’s mane mushroom with udon noodles, aubergine, caramelized onion, and amai miso sauce. Barbecue sauce, sesame seeds, kimchi, spring onion, red chili, and coriander complete the flavors. You'll also find a range of noodle dishes and salads, and a vegan version of the ever-popular katsu curry made with sweet potato, aubergine and butternt squash. Think Nando’s and you think chicken – but there are options for vegans, too. Try The Great Imitator burger, wrap or pitta taste just like the famous PERi-PERi chicken, but is made completely from pea-protein. At Las Iguanas, the menu includes jackfruit curry, a veggie chilli with sweet potato, butternut squash and chickpeas, a mushroom fajita stack, and veggie burritos, nachos and poppadoms. Five Guys offers a tasty veggie sandwich made with melted American cheese and as many free toppings as you can eat! And pizza lovers will find plenty of vegan and veggie options at Pizza Express.
