TV food favourites star in Eat Street extravaganza at Festival Place

Great British Bake-Off winner Candice Brown and Chris Bavin, presenter of Eat Well for Less and author of Good Food: Sorted, will be sharing their passion for cooking at this year’s Eat Street festival in Basingstoke.

The TV stars will join retailers and Hampshire Fare producers at Festival Place shopping centre and leisure destination as it transforms itself into a foodie heaven.

Shoppers can soak up the sounds, smells and tastes of different cuisines from around the globe on August 10 and 11.

There will be live cooking demonstrations in Porchester Square alongside giant chef stilt walkers, mocktail making, face painting and biscuit decorating.

On Saturday, August 10, the engaging ‘Great British Bake-Off’ winner and food writer Candice Brown will be showing shoppers how to create pina colada macaroons and peach melba meringue pie.

TV’s Chris Bavin, who presents popular BBC Series ‘Eat Well For Less?’ and ‘Britain in Bloom’ as well as judging on ‘Britain’s Best Home Cook’, will be in Porchester Square on Sunday, August 11.

He will be demonstrating how to cook rum pineapple with lime mascarpone, and spicy red pepper dip from his new book Good Food, Sorted.

The centre’s wide range of food and beverage outlets will be joining in the fun, with many handing out free samples from their menus. Retailers taking part include Festival Street Kitchen, Kokoro, Las Iguanas, Nando’s, Pizza Express, Starbucks, Wagamama, Caffe Nero, Apricot Café.

Festival Place has also partnered with Hampshire Fare to showcase the county’s fantastic produce – including some of our best local gins.

Throughout the weekend shoppers will have the chance to win a hamper worth £250 filled with goodies from Festival Place. To enter, customers will need to fill in their entry form on the bottom of Candice and Chris’ recipe cards and post in the event post boxes, available in Porchester Square over the weekend.

Neil Churchill, Centre Director at Festival Place, said: “Our Eat Street event is one of the highlights of the year, and we’re delighted that both Chris Bavin and Candice Brown will be here to demonstrate some of their most delicious dishes for our shoppers.

“We’re incredibly proud of the food offering we have here at Festival Place, and this will be a chance for visitors to discover more about the fantastic cuisine from around the globe that they can find all under one roof.

“It’s the perfect event for the summer holidays, as there will be food for all the family to enjoy – as well as the chance to explore our wide range of shops, visit the Vue cinema or experience the fun of Flip Out trampoline park.”

Eat Street runs on August 10 and 11 from 11am until 5pm. It is supported by Basingstoke Together, the Business Improvement District organisation for the town.

Lucy Boazman, Chief Executive, said: “Basingstoke continues to thrive, and events such as Eat Street at Festival Place are a great way to demonstrate how much the town has to offer.”
