Why shopping at FP doesn’t cost the Earth

We’re getting behind World Environment Day on June 5 and reminding you of all the fantastic green initiatives and products we have here at Festival Place.

Many of our retailers put sustainability front and centre, and offer eco-friendly and zero-waste products. And as a shopping centre, we are fully committed to protecting our environment, adopting as many measures as we can to boost our eco efficiency.

Did you know:

• More than 95 per cent of our suppliers have shown their commitment to ethical procurement and business practices.
• Independent Nigerian restaurant Afrizi is a finalist in the Sustainable Champion category of the year’s Inspire Awards. The eco-conscious restaurant and takeaway serves delicious African food with vegetarian and vegan options, and its ongoing efforts to minimise its ecological footprint includes seating made from repurposed pallets and wooden cable drums, bamboo cutlery, and compostable food takeaway containers.
• Our tech team has been adding wildflowers and hedgehog homes around our fantastic amphitheatre.
• Our gorgeous Giving Garden outside the centre was created for us by Beardy Gardener Leigh Johnstone as a contribution to the wellbeing of the Basingstoke community. This is a space where local people can connect with plants to support their mental health, and the fauna planted was selected to be beneficial to bees and insects.
• Gift and lifestyle brand Fig & Fox has sustainability at the heart of its business, using local suppliers where possible to reduce mileage and support local communities, and only using plastic free packaging. Keen gardeners can also pick up used coffee grounds from the barista coffee station.
• Luxurious bath, body and home brand Rituals offers refills for its body creams, fragrance sticks, car perfumes, handwashes, day and night creams and serums.
• Cosmetics company Lush saves nearly six million plastic bottles globally from selling shampoo bars alone.
• Since 2007, Festival Place has been awarded three Green Hero and 10 Green Apple awards for our recycling efforts.
